Steven Allender is an artist, cartoonist, writer and illustrator based in North Devon, UK. He paints mainly Impressionist style land and seascapes, inspired by the coastline and countryside around Penguin Towers; and his drawings are known for their unique quirkiness and extraordinary detail.
Steve is the creator of the much loved Cow Island Tales: the tales of six cartoon cows who live on an island, and have adventures at sea with pirate sheep and more… as recorded by a tiny penguin – one of Steve’s alter egos. He also draws a regular weekly “Henley Scan” cartoon for the Henley Herald, inspired by local news from his much loved former home of many years.
When not writing and illustrating Cow Island Tales, cartooning for the Henley Herald, plein air painting and photographing scenery for future paintings; embellishing the walls of Penguin Towers; or pursuing his Good Life fantasy on the allotment, you’ll find Steve in his chair, drawing silliness from his imagination whilst drinking endless cups of tea, with a few telltale cake crumbs in his lap…
